Carl Hertlein | Assistant Coach
Carl Hertlein is in his second year as the Assistant Water Polo Coach at CSU Monterey Bay. Hertlein is a Monterey Bay native who graduated from Stevenson High School where he played water polo and earned All Tri-County honors. Hertlein competed collegiately at University of Arizona, where he played for Coach Emily Schmit.
Following his competitive playing career, Hertlein began his water polo coaching career at the University of Arizona taking on the Head Coach responsibilities for the Men's and Women's Club teams. He achieved overall records of .75 and .818, respectively, and earned Coach of the Year in his final season for his work with the women’s program.
In addition to his work with the Otters, Herlein is heavily involved in the continued growth and development of water polo on the Monterey Peninsula. Since 2012 he coached various levels of Club and High School Water Polo. Hertein has taken numerous teams to the Junior Olympics and helped lead teams to multiple league titles, including one undefeated season.
Carl Hertlein graduated from the University Arizona with a BS degree in Regional Development. He still competes for Otter Bay Masters Water Polo Club.
Brian M. Potts | Head Site Coach
Brian was selected and has had the great opportunity to work with Olympic Coach Dr. Dave Salo at the University of Southern California. Brian worked with the USC Swim Camp for six summers to further his study of swimming at one of the top ten Swim Camps in the United States. In this capacity he worked with and met numerous Olympic swimmers under Coach Salo’s tutelage.
Coach Brian is the Salinas Site Head Coach at Hartnell College for the Dolphins Aquatic Club. He serves as the coach of the Pre-senior and Junior groups. During the last six years with the Dolphins, Coach Brian has leveraged all of his experiences and knowledge while his swimmers have achieved numerous Dolphin Team Records, Junior Olympic Championship Finalists and Champions, Far Western Champions, numerous CCS top eight finishes, Sectionals qualifications, CIF Swimming State championship finalists, and Futures time standards. He has also developed numerous Meet High Point Swimmers, Alcatraz open water winners, High School All-American swimmers, USA Nationally ranked age-group swimmers, and Junior National Qualification times.
Coach Brian currently serves as the Pacific Swimming Board of Directors: Camps Coordinator Brian has also served as Head coach for Pacific Swimming Zone All-Star team, assistant coach for Pacific Swimming All-Star team, assistant coach at Western Zones, assistant coach at Pacific Swimming Leadership camp, assistant coach at Pacific Swimming 10-Under camp, and Manager/ Assistant Coach at Pacific Swimming Distance camp at Colorado Springs.
